Details Press Release.

I Think I Need You, the highly anticipated fifth 7″ from Leeds pop purists The Lodger, arriving May 15 on limited-edition green vinyl and digital platforms. Formed in 2004 by vocalist/guitarist Ben Siddall and rounded out by producer/keyboardist Óscar Davis, bassist Lisa Evans and drummer Mark Powell, The Lodger have built a global following with two full-length albums and three early singles now prized by collectors. Their new A-side, “I Think I Need You,” marks the group’s first slow-tempo statement—a lush, mid-tempo reverie enriched by crystalline guitar arpeggios and a melancholic trumpet line performed by guest musician Joan Garriga. On the flip, “I Can’t Stop” delivers Smiths-inspired urgency with effervescent hooks, while “This Is Good Fortune” offers a sun-drenched chorus designed to brighten any morning commute. The EP closes with “That Guy,” the band’s shortest composition yet, packing an explosive crescendo into just over sixty seconds. Recorded at Studios del Norte in Leeds and mixed by longtime collaborator Genís Segarra, the release is accompanied by a lyric video for the title track directed by Adrián Martínez. To celebrate, The Lodger will perform a release show at Sala El Sol in Madrid on May 22, joined by The School and Lavandera.

Achievements and awards

The Lodger have championed the art of the pop single since their formation in Leeds in 2004, led by Ben Siddall’s warm vocals and shimmering guitars. Across two acclaimed albums—Grown-Ups (2006) and Flashbacks (2009)—and three early 7″ releases on boutique indie labels, they forged a reputation for timelessly youthful melodies and precise arrangements. Their singles became coveted collector’s items, elevating the format itself to cult status in the vein of The Clientele. Critics and fans alike praised their ability to marry jangly guitar lines with subtle brass flourishes, crafting songs that feel both joyous and enduring. Now, with “I Think I Need You,” their fifth 7″ and first on Elefant Records, the band proudly unveils their first-ever slow-tempo single: a mid-tempo gem featuring crystalline guitar work and a plaintive trumpet motif that underscores Siddall’s evocative lyrics. The B-side, “I Can’t Stop,” channels Morrissey-esque urgency into a danceable homage to The Smiths, while the uplifting “This Is Good Fortune” delivers a sunlit chorus to banish weekday monotony. Closer “That Guy” distills their essence into a one-minute whirlwind crescendo—proof that The Lodger’s concise songwriting continues to captivate. With each meticulously crafted single, The Lodger reaffirm their belief that the three-minute pop song remains music’s most powerful form of expression.

Artist Bio.

The Lodger are a Leeds-based indie-pop quartet formed in 2004, featuring Ben Siddall (vocals, guitar), Óscar Davis (keyboards), Lisa Evans (bass) and Mark Powell (drums). Revered for their meticulous three-minute pop songs, they drew early comparisons to The Smiths and The Clientele for their blend of jangly guitars, warm brass, and literate lyrics. Their 2006 debut album Grown-Ups and 2009 follow-up Flashbacks established them as torchbearers of timeless melody, while three sought-after 7″ singles on small independent labels became collector’s treasures. In May 2025 they release their first single on Elefant Records, I Think I Need You, a green-vinyl 7″ featuring four tracks: the mid-tempo title song with its emotive trumpet hook; the urgent B-side “I Can’t Stop”; the sunlit anthem “This Is Good Fortune”; and the explosive one-minute finale “That Guy.” Recorded at Studios del Norte, mixed by Genís Segarra and pressed in a limited run, the EP demonstrates The Lodger’s unwavering commitment to the art of the pop single. Their upcoming release show at Madrid’s Sala El Sol on May 22 will mark the next chapter in their distinguished career.
