GUATAFÁN are a Spanish indie-pop trio celebrated for their fearless fusion of 60s girl-group charm, Japanese techno-pop vitality and punk-pop grit. Led by vocalist María López and joined by Laura and Cristina, the group first appeared in 2010 as a boy-girl duo in the New Adventures in Pop series. Their debut single earned rapid acclaim on indie radio and blogs. Now reimagined as a girl trio, GUATAFÁN’s four new tracks—“Examen Sorpresa,” “Chicas de Oro,” “La Vida Me Sonríe” and “Un Día de Verano”—showcase their knack for spunky melodies, dancefloor-ready rhythms and boundary-smashing creativity. With limited-edition white vinyl and a summer tour ahead, GUATAFÁN continue to define Spain’s most inventive new pop wave. For their second New Adventures in Pop 7″, GUATAFÁN refined their aesthetic with four irresistible new tracks. “Examen Sorpresa” crackles with drum-machine swagger, live drums and breakneck guitars, while “Chicas de Oro” drifts into dream-pop territory with lush arpeggiators and glittering Casiotone lines. “La Vida Me Sonríe” marries Juniper Moon’s wistful elegance to Cola Jet Set’s melodic warmth, crowned by a sing-along chorus clearly destined for indie-pop anthems. Closing the record, “Un Día de Verano” unleashes pure, Helen Love–style exhilaration, evoking Madrid’s punk-pop legacy via Los Nikis and Estación Victoria.
