Details Press Release.

Today, trailblazing pop trio GUATAFÁN unveils their eagerly awaited second single in the New Adventures in Pop series: a limited-edition white vinyl 7″ featuring four brand-new tracks. Having transformed from a boy-girl duo into a vibrant girl group led by María López, with Laura and Cristina adding vocal firepower, GUATAFÁN fuse 60s-style harmonies with Japanese techno-pop energy and a dash of punk attitude. Opener “Examen Sorpresa” propels listeners with a thrilling interplay of programmed beats, live drumming and scorching guitar lines. Side A closes with “Chicas de Oro,” a dream-pop reverie dripping in arpeggiated synths and Casiotone nostalgia. On Side B, “La Vida Me Sonríe” channels Juniper Moon’s bittersweet charm through a prism of Cola Jet Set–inspired melodies and features a chorus guaranteed to ignite sing-alongs. The record concludes with “Un Día de Verano,” an electric celebration of youth that imagines Helen Love transplanted to Madrid’s underground scene. Co-produced by the band and Madrid’s ElectroSonido Studios, this 7″ is available June 10th via independent record stores and the New Adventures in Pop webstore. GUATAFÁN will celebrate with a launch show at Siroco on June 20th, followed by summer dates at Lemon Pop Murcia and ContemPOPranea Festival. Don’t miss the new wave of fearless, genre-defying pop.

Achievements and awards

Since bursting onto the scene in March 2010 as co-founder of the celebrated New Adventures in Pop series, GUATAFÁN have reinvented themselves without losing a beat. Originally a boy-girl duo alongside Papa Topo, the project has evolved into a dynamic all-female trio—fronted by María López with Laura and Cristina—channeling the spirit of 60s girl groups and modern Japanese pop collectives. Their debut single for the series solidified their status as indie-pop darlings; tastemaker blogs and college radio stations championed its blend of sunlit melodies and off-kilter charm. With limited-edition white vinyl already selling out at pre-order, GUATAFÁN continue to define a fearless pop vanguard—bridging retro adoration and futuristic flair, and cementing their place among Spain’s most imaginative new bands.

Artist Bio.

GUATAFÁN are a Spanish indie-pop trio celebrated for their fearless fusion of 60s girl-group charm, Japanese techno-pop vitality and punk-pop grit. Led by vocalist María López and joined by Laura and Cristina, the group first appeared in 2010 as a boy-girl duo in the New Adventures in Pop series. Their debut single earned rapid acclaim on indie radio and blogs. Now reimagined as a girl trio, GUATAFÁN’s four new tracks—“Examen Sorpresa,” “Chicas de Oro,” “La Vida Me Sonríe” and “Un Día de Verano”—showcase their knack for spunky melodies, dancefloor-ready rhythms and boundary-smashing creativity. With limited-edition white vinyl and a summer tour ahead, GUATAFÁN continue to define Spain’s most inventive new pop wave. For their second New Adventures in Pop 7″, GUATAFÁN refined their aesthetic with four irresistible new tracks. “Examen Sorpresa” crackles with drum-machine swagger, live drums and breakneck guitars, while “Chicas de Oro” drifts into dream-pop territory with lush arpeggiators and glittering Casiotone lines. “La Vida Me Sonríe” marries Juniper Moon’s wistful elegance to Cola Jet Set’s melodic warmth, crowned by a sing-along chorus clearly destined for indie-pop anthems. Closing the record, “Un Día de Verano” unleashes pure, Helen Love–style exhilaration, evoking Madrid’s punk-pop legacy via Los Nikis and Estación Victoria.
