September 15, 2002 – Birmingham, England. Elefant Records is proud to present Runnin’ Riot, the explosive debut album from Birmingham’s own punk-techno-pop duo Mogul. Comprised of vocalist Jonni and keyboardist Candii, Mogul channels the cheap-keyboard charm of Casio-style synths, the Eurodisco sheen of the 1980s and the anarchic edge of Iggy Pop into a fresh, defiantly ironic sound. Early career highlights include the “Jonni” track on Boa Records’ Noises from the Soundcupboard and a celebrated lo-fi cover of Oasis’s “Roll with It,” which attracted acclaim from New Musical Express and the BBC. Their singles “I Was Starving Hungry in Tesco’s” and Elefant’s own “Rotunda” paved the way for this full-length offering. Runnin’ Riot delivers an electrifying journey through high-voltage cuts such as “Midland Metro,” “A Clash of Hairdos,” “No Kicks” and “Bin Bag,” interspersed with rare tracks from previous splits, including “Precint” and “The Story of Ort.” The album’s centerpiece, “Better than Sex,” features three kinetic remixes by The Cuban Boys, ensuring unstoppable dancefloor appeal. Available now on CD and digital platforms via Elefant Records, Runnin’ Riot will be followed by headline performances in Birmingham, London and across Europe this autumn.
