In 1989, The Hepburns took control of their music by founding their own label, Magic Records, alongside Cherry Red's Scott Langley. Under this banner, they released the single Electrified (From Countryside To City). That same year, the lineup included Matt Jones (guitar, vocals, and keyboards), Mike Thomas (bass), Les Mun (drums), Nigel Boulton (aka The King of Wales) on lead guitar, and Cronsey Jones on harmonica. Shortly after, Les left the group and was replaced by Aled Richards (later of CATATONIA). With Richards, they recorded Road Movie in 1989, a project conceived as a creative retaliation against Cherry Red. The album blended the then-popular indie sound with an eclectic mix of influences ranging from XTC to LED ZEPPELIN and THE CARPENTERS. Unfortunately, the death of Scott Langley's father delayed the album's release, and it remained shelved until its digital debut in 2017.
