Details Press Release.

After fronting Los Flechazos for over a decade, singer‑guitarist Alejandro Díez launches his solo project Cooper with the release of Fonorama, available November 15th on independent label Poptones. Recorded at Rock Soul Studios with drummer Carlos Torero (Radio Futura), bassist Mc Cartney (Sex Museum) and guitarist Mario Álvarez (Popels), Fonorama reveals a new chapter in Díez’s songwriting: rugged Brit‑pop guitars, lush string arrangements and playful sampler flourishes complement his signature lyrical wit and melodic flair. Listeners will recognize the timeless pop sensibility that propelled Los Flechazos—shel Talmy‑style riffs, blue‑eyed soul inflections and golden‑age harmonies—yet discover a bolder, more diverse sound. Standout tracks include the wistful “Es tarde” (featuring a poignant string quartet), the anthemic “Vértigo” and the electro‑tinged “El Rascacielos.” Cooper’s live debut tour kicks off December 1st in León, with dates in Barcelona, Valencia and Madrid’s Sala Sol, offering fans a first glimpse of the project’s dynamic stage presence. With Fonorama, Cooper stakes his claim as one of Spain’s most gifted pop craftsmen—equal parts nostalgic homage and forward‑looking innovation. Press reviews are already praising the album’s “bracing freshness” and “undeniable melodic genius.”

Achievements and awards

After more than a decade leading Spain’s premier mod‑beat outfit Los Flechazos—six LPs, dozens of TV appearances and tours from Italy to Japan—Alejandro Díez reinvented himself in 2000 as Cooper, a solo vehicle for his boundless pop songwriting. Freed from the Hammond‑organ–driven constraints of his former band, he immediately assembled top‑flight players (Carlos Torero, Mc Cartney, Mario Álvarez) and cut Fonorama, a debut LP recorded at Madrid’s Rock Soul Studios that showcased tougher guitars, string arrangements on “Es tarde” and even sampler textures on “El Rascacielos.” Promoted by a three‑month national tour and the “Vértigo”/“Rascacielos” single (plus two new B‑sides and a stylish video by Les Nouveaux Auteurs), Cooper quickly proved that Alejandro’s unique vocal style and melodic gift were undiminished—and perhaps amplified—outside a traditional band setting. In 2003–04, he embraced the “small‑pills” approach, issuing a string of acclaimed singles (“747,” “Cerca del sol”/“Oxidado”) and gifting fans exclusive live‑session CDs with ticket stubs. Highlights included a live set at Benicàssim’s free Plaza de Callao show for Radio 3’s 25th anniversary and festival slots at ContemPOPranea, FIB and Lemon Pop. Crowning this prolific period was Retrovisor (2004), a collage‑style retrospective album compiling rare singles, three new tracks and accompanying video footage, issued in a limited white‑vinyl edition. Across recordings, tours and television sessions, Cooper has proven himself one of Spain’s most inventive torchbearers of timeless pop.

Artist Bio.

Alejandro Díez, best known as frontman of cult mod‑beat powerhouse Los Flechazos (1986–1998), launched his solo persona Cooper in 2000 to explore new pop horizons. Over twelve years with Los Flechazos, Díez led six LPs—two issued in Japan—garnered fierce fan devotion, sixty-plus television appearances and tours across Europe, all while fusing 60’s British Invasion riffs with American blue‑eyed soul. Freed from band constraints, he recorded Fonorama at Madrid’s Rock Soul Studio in November 2000 with seasoned session players: Carlos Torero (Radio Futura) on drums, Mc Cartney (Sex Museum) on bass and Mario Álvarez (Popels) on guitar. The album retains Díez’s unmistakable vocal style and melodic gifts, while embracing tougher guitars, orchestral strings and sample‑driven textures—proof that Cooper is “100% Alejandro.” Between 2001 and 2004, Cooper issued acclaimed singles (“Vértigo,” “747,” “Oxidado”), embarked on marathon Spanish tours and played major festivals including ContemPOPranea, Benicàssim and FIB. In late 2004, he compiled Retrovisor, a curated anthology of recent singles, three new tracks and exclusive videos, released as a limited white‑vinyl edition. Through every incarnation, Alejandro Díez—aka Cooper—remains one of Spain’s most inventive and melodic pop architects.
