Details Press Release.

April 1, 2002 – Madrid, Spain. Elefant Records proudly presents Popemas, the third studio album by Gijón’s acclaimed indie pop quintet Nosoträsh. Formed in 1993 by Cova, Bea, Natalia, Montse and Eugenia (later Malela), the band has consistently fused poetic lyricism with concise, melody-driven songwriting. Produced by Ibon Errazkin (Le Mans) and featuring collaborations from Nacho Vegas and Guiller Momonje, Popemas comprises eighteen fleeting pop poems—each under two minutes—that distill quotidian emotions into miniature masterpieces. The album opens with “Arte,” whose evocative choreography of synths and guitars earned the MTV Spain Award for Best Spanish Video in 2002. From the wistful nostalgia of “Corazón-Colilla” to the playful intimacy of “Tan Sólo Por Los Besos,” Nosoträsh craft snapshots of love, loss and fleeting joy through crystalline arrangements and candid vocal interplay. Popemas has garnered exceptional press: Nosoträsh graced the covers of Rockdelux, Avui’s Rock&Clàssic, Diario de Tarragona’s Culturas and Las Provincias’ Zona LP, and appeared in features in El País’s Tentaciones and El Mundo’s La Luna. “Gloria” was named Song of the Month on Radio 3’s Disco Grande. Nosoträsh will celebrate Popemas with performances at Primavera Sound alongside Pulp and Spiritualized, and a live session for TVE’s Historia del Pop Español. Available April 15 on CD Digipak, vinyl and all digital platforms.

Achievements and awards

Nosoträsh formed in 1993 in Gijón, Spain, when Cova, Bea, Natalia, Montse and Eugenia—soon joined by Malela—united to create heartfelt, unabashed indie pop. Their earliest demo won Rockdelux’s Best Demo award in 1995, powered by the now-classic “Voy A Aterrizar.” After releasing a four-track single on local label Astro in 1996 and performing at FIB, they signed to RCA, issuing acclaimed EPs throughout 1997 that earned them Grupo Revelación on Los 40 Principales’ “Viaje a los Sueños Polares.” Their debut album, Nadie Hablará De… Nosoträsh (1998), fused the literate elegance of Le Mans and Vainica Doble with a fresh indie-pop sensibility; it was named Album of the Year by “Viaje a los Sueños Polares” and hailed by Rockdelux as one of the decade’s best. In 1999 Eugenia departed and the band joined Elefant Records, releasing the single “Hacia El Sur,” which topped Rough Trade customer requests and garnered BBC radio play. Their sophomore album, Mi Vida En Un Fin De Semana (2000), produced by Ian Catt (Saint Etienne), captured slice-of-life narratives and sensitive melodies, earning top ten placements in Rockdelux, Mondosonoro and listeners’ polls. The group toured Spain’s premier festivals—Benicàssim, Doctor Music, ContemPOPranea—and recorded Radio 3 sessions.

Artist Bio.

Nosoträsh are a pioneering Spanish indie pop band formed in 1993 in Gijón by Cova (vocals), Bea (guitar), Natalia (bass), Montse (guitar) and Eugenia (keyboards), later joined by Malela. Their earliest demo, anchored by “Voy A Aterrizar,” won Rockdelux’s Best Demo in 1995, leading to an initial single on Astro and performances at FIB. Signing to RCA in 1996, they released a series of EPs that earned them Grupo Revelación on Los 40 Principales’ Viaje a los Sueños Polares and slots at major festivals. Their debut album, Nadie Hablará De… Nosoträsh (1998), blended the literate sophistication of Le Mans and Vainica Doble with an indie-pop freshness, earning Album of the Year honors on Radio 3 and top listings in Rockdelux. In 1999 they joined Elefant Records, releasing the BBC-aired single “Hacia El Sur.” Their second album, Mi Vida En Un Fin De Semana (2000), produced by Ian Catt, captured everyday narratives in sensitive melodic form, climbing critics’ year-end polls. In 2002, Popemas, produced by Ibon Errazkin with guest spots from Nacho Vegas, distilled emotions into sub-two-minute pop poems, crowned by MTV Spain’s Best Video award for “Arte.” After their final studio album, Cierra la Puerta al Salir (2005), Nosoträsh reunited in 2011 for Primavera Sound, performing Popemas in full to celebrate its tenth anniversary.
