Details Press Release.

Flávia Muniz, one of Brazil’s most compelling young voices, today releases her debut solo album Descalços Sobre a Terra. Recorded in an all-acoustic session with her handpicked ensemble O Olho Mágico, the record channels the spirit of Rio’s golden era while embracing contemporary pop textures. From the anthemic opener “Brasil Onde a Gente Mora” (featuring QUARTETO EM CY–style choral harmonies) to the kaleidoscopic samba of “Cocorocô” and the playful multilingual nursery rhyme “Comment Tu T’appelles,” Flávia’s compositions showcase her exquisite musical training and boundless imagination. Producer Dani Cardona captured the warmth of her vocals alongside Bruno Reis’s lyrical guitar, Rodrigo Sebastián’s resonant double bass, Rômulo Frazão’s fluttering flute and Thiago Kobe’s organic drumming. A graduate in Música Popular Brasileira from UNIRIO, Flávia overcame a critical coma in 2007, transforming her recovery into creative fuel—writing bestselling children’s books and fronting the indie-pop band Luísa Mandou Um Beijo. Descalços Sobre a Terra marks her most personal statement yet, paying homage to Elis Regina’s power, Gal Costa’s elegance and Caetano Veloso’s adventurous spirit. Flávia will celebrate the album with a Brazilian tour beginning June 10th at Rio’s Circo Voador, followed by dates at São Paulo’s SESC Pompeia and Salvador’s Teatro Castro Alves. Descalços Sobre a Terra is available today on CD, vinyl and all major streaming services.

Achievements and awards

Before her debut album even arrived, Flávia Muniz had already amassed a devoted following across Brazil and Europe. Trained at UNIRIO in Música Popular Brasileira under luminaries like Luis Otávio Braga, Roberto Gnattali and Mirna Rubin, she emerged with the technical mastery to inhabit any style—from samba to bossa nova to folk. In 2007, a near-fatal coma forced her to relearn how to breathe, speak, walk, eat—and sing. Through sheer determination, she retaught herself via songwriting, penning seven acclaimed children’s books (“Quero ver verdejar,” “Vilarejo,” “Bárbara e a baleia,” among others) that have become staples in educational programs. As lead vocalist of indie-pop outfit Luísa Mandou Um Beijo, Flávia recorded three albums and wrote many of the band’s signature songs, earning praise for her lyrical honesty and vocal warmth. In 2010 she assembled O Olho Mágico—Bruno Reis (guitar), Felipe Rodrigues (guitar), Rodrigo Sebastián (double bass), Rômulo Frazão (flute) and Thiago Kobe (drums)—to bring her solo material to life. Their live debut at Rio’s Circo Voador sold out within days, and tracks from her forthcoming album have already been playlisted by Radio Nacional and RDP Antena 2. Her awaited solo LP, Descalços Sobre a Terra, recorded entirely acoustic, weaves classic Rio rhythms, intricate harmonies and modern pop sensibilities into a vivid tapestry. Early singles “Brasil Onde a Gente Mora” and “Catavento” have been hailed as instant MPB standards, and Flávia’s intimate performances at São Paulo’s SESC and Lisbon’s Casa da Música confirm her status as one of Brazil’s most promising voices.
