David Burns is a Sussex-born musician, from a small town near Brighton. He started his musical journey in a folk band, but has since moved on to solo projects and collaborations. His music is characterized by its melancholy tone and honest lyrics. He began playing guitar at the age of 19, and was inspired by the music of Nick drake, Mark Kozelek, The National and Radiohead. In his early twenties, he formed a band with some friends. The band ‘Orchid’ released two albums, one of which became number 1 in iTunes folk charts. Following this Burns began to focus on his solo work. He released his first single, ‘Overgrown’, under the name Makarno in 2017. Burns has since released one album and a number of EPs and singles. Burns’ music is often described as “melancholy” or “somber”. His lyrics often deal with themes of loss, loneliness, and alienation. However, his music is also characterized by its honesty and its emotional power.
