Sisters Before Misters, the debut Mini-LP from Vigo’s electrifying punk-pop trio Wild Balbina, available today on vinyl and digital formats. Formed by singer-guitarists Antía Figueiras and Marta González with percussionist Guille V. Zapata, Wild Balbina honed their manifesto of raw energy and melodic immediacy in their hometown bunker throughout summer and autumn 2013. Self-recorded and co-produced by the band in collaboration with engineer Manu Sanz, Sisters Before Misters expands on the feral spirit of their debut 7″ Eat Tacos EP—a release that earned them a nomination at the Independent Music Awards. Across seven tracks, the album traverses riotous guitar jollies, surf-tinged reveries and C-86 jangle, all underpinned by feminist ethos. Highlights include the riotous opener “Wild Wild Balbina,” whose angular riffs and spiked harmonies recall early C86 acts; the hook-laden “Grit Girls,” marrying Girlschool swagger with California Dream-pop sheen; and the anthemic “No Sir, Mister,” featuring call-and-response vocals over a motorik backbeat. The band celebrates the release with in-store performances at Discos La Metralleta in Barcelona on June 15 and Discos Revolver in Madrid on June 22. Early press hails Sisters Before Misters as “a fearless collision of punk spirit and pop craft” (MondoSonoro). Wild Balbina’s debut promises to galvanize listeners and set the stage for a new chapter in Spanish DIY rock.
