ALDEAS EN EL AIRE

Born June 4th 1992, Gaby Barzuna is a Costa Rican singer-songwriter. She remembers singing and whistling ever since she learnt how to speak. She grew up in San Jose, Costa Rica listening to her dad’s impressive collection of LPs, as he was a big fan of music, especially romantic ballads and rancher sin Spanish. As a teenager she became passionate about classic rock music, such as Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac, The Velvet Underground and The Doors amongst others, which became important influences for her early song writing. She began her journey in the music business when she was 18 years old and got hired for the first time by the Costa Rican musician and producer Federico Miranda, to record vocals for television and radio commercials amongst other projects. Her first appearances on stage were in 2013 as lead vocalist of the progressive alternative rock band Mandala, sharing stages with other national bands. She graduated with a degree in Communication and Advertising as well as a Yoga Teacher Training in 2014. Two years later, in2016, motivated by yoga and surfing, she moved to the coastal community of Nosara, where she expanded her musical influences, collaborating and performing with different national and international artists. In 2021 she was part of the book and project Nature of Surf Women, with which she recorded her original demo Aldeas enel Aire for the first time in an acoustic format. This marked the beginning of her motivation to start producing her original records and sharing them with the world in 2024.
