It feels like just yesterday that Olaya, Juan, Lucas, Stephen, and Mario came together to form Axolotes Mexicanos. But more than a decade has passed, during which they’ve toured Spain and beyond, released singles, EPs, and albums, and cemented themselves as a staple of the Spanish music scene. Now, they return with *4ever*, their fourth studio album—self-recorded and self-produced, just the way they like it. It’s their most mature work yet, effortlessly blending genres without labels or restrictions. From the bossa nova vibes of *Al Atardecer* to the J-pop energy of *Plaza del Sol*, and the darker rock tones of *Rosas y Espinas*, *4ever* is a bold, eclectic mix. Following its release and a tour in Mexico, we sat down with Olaya to talk nostalgia, precariousness, Japanese culture, and what’s next for the band.
