Details Press Release.

Today marks the release of Telescopio, the eagerly anticipated debut album from Gasca, the visionary project of vocalist/composer Carlos Andreu. Recorded at Barcelona’s renowned Elefant Studios with producer Pere Boada (Los Fresones Rebeldes, Beef, Telefilme), Telescopio showcases twelve tracks that fuse the precision of 1980s techno-pop—including nods to OMD, Devo, New Order and Kraftwerk—with warm, melodic songwriting. Listeners will recognize reimagined versions of breakthrough singles “Estratosfera” and “Nube Gris,” now enriched by Francesc’s brass arrangements and lush female harmonies. New songs such as “El Barco que Describes,” a wistful journey of longing, and “Lugar Soñado,” a dreamy ode to escapism, demonstrate Carlos’s lyrical depth and knack for hook-driven choruses. Lead single “Vacaciones,” accompanied by a stylish video from Les Nouveaux Auteurs, is already gaining airplay on national television and radio. Gasca celebrates the album launch with a special live broadcast session on TVE 2 this Friday, followed by headline shows in Madrid (Sala El Sol, April 1) and Barcelona (Sidecar, April 8). They will also join Damon & Naomi as support at Barcelona’s Razzmatazz on March 28 and appear at the Benicàssim Festival in August. Telescopio is available today on CD and all major digital platforms.

Achievements and awards

Gasca, the solo‐turned‐quartet project of composer Carlos Andreu, has rapidly become a standout voice in Spain’s synth‐pop underground. After years of restless experimentation with guitar and bass in various bands, Andreu retreated to his home studio, crafting demos—most notably “Estratosfera” and “Mal ladrón”—using little more than a computer and four-track recorder. Encouraged by neighbor David Rodríguez (Beef, Telefilme), he sent those early tapes to Elefant, who immediately recognized their potential. Their full‐length Telescopio arrived in March 2001, blending fresh renditions of early tracks (“Estratosfera,” “Nube Gris”) with new compositions (“El barco que describes,” “Lugar soñado,” “Vacaciones”). A video for “Vacaciones” by Les Nouveaux Auteurs earned TV airplay, and the band promoted the album with a live session on national TV, a support slot for Damon & Naomi, and a set at Benicàssim Festival. Subsequent highlights include Madrid’s “Operación Bikini” series with Niza and Ellos (2002) and the inclusion of “Nube Gris” on the Philippines compilation I’d Spend My Day With You. Gasca’s blend of ’80s techno-pop influences and meticulous programming has earned them a devoted following and critical acclaim.

Artist Bio.

Gasca is the solo-turned-quartet vehicle of Spanish composer Carlos Andreu (vocals, bass, programming). A lifelong devotee of 1980s techno-pop—citing OMD, Devo, New Order, Human League and Kraftwerk—Andreu began crafting demos like “Estratosfera” and “Mal Ladrón” at home. Encouraged by David Rodríguez (Beef, Telefilme), he recorded his first single in early 1999 with producer Pere Boada. Joined by Frank, Oscar and Francesc, Gasca made a striking debut live appearance in Madrid before releasing their full-length Telescopio in March 2001. Blending shimmering synths, brass flourishes and melodic depth, Gasca has earned acclaim for revitalizing classic pop with a modern edge. In February 1999, Andreu entered the studio with producer Pere Boada to record his first single, “Estratosfera,” released that May. By then, Gasca had expanded into a four-piece—Frank, Oscar and Francesc joining Carlos—and delivered a debut live show in Madrid featuring guitars, keys and a brass section. Though live dates were sparse, their support slots for Polak (ex-Adorable) in Madrid and Barcelona, and a memorable appearance at Barcelona’s BAM Festival, cemented their reputation for richly arranged, danceable pop.
